After visiting Mary Wagner in prison at the Vanier Centre for Women, Our Lady traveled to St. Francis Xavier Church in Tottenham, a small town in a remote area of Ontario with a population of 6,000. For 20 years, St. Francis Xavier Parish has offered Eucharistic adoration 24/7.
Upon leaving Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo, NY, we crossed the border and visited Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. After enjoying a wonderful Polish dinner with Adam and Dorota Karcewski in Mississauga, we brought the icon into their home and prayed the rosary, alternating the decades in English and Polish.
March 21, on the road again but this time to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Syracuse, New York. We made good time going towards the check point for the Canadian-US border. Preparing to answer the usual questions at the border checkpoint Fr. West and Chris practiced responses.
Seeing the ominous weather predictions, we wondered if we would be able to drive to Madonna House in Combermere, Ontario. Our new friends here in Ottawa said the road to Madonna House can get snowed over.
We started the day by praying in front of the seat of Canadian government in Ottawa. This was very much in line with what Archbishop Prendergast had suggested the previous day at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, namely, that Catholics should be unafraid to give witness to the faith and the sanctity of life. The morning was especially cold, even for Canadians.
